Top predators and gentle giants - residents or visitors to society in the world of the reef.

The big creatures are the ones that draw our attention.  We can't miss them underwater.  They are large, thrilling and usually rare enough that a chance encounter is etched into our memories.  Looking into the eye of a Dwarf Minke Whale is an experience that is beyond spiritual.  It's life changing to experience the curiosity that these oceanic masters show towards a human being floating on the surface, coming back time and again to within metres of you. Reef sharks, turtles, dolphins and manta rays are each awe-inspiring in their own ways.  But often, in our search for "charismatic megafauna" - we forget what is right under our noses all the time.  The little things that matter.
